West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Ophthalmology seek a Pediatric Ophthalmologist qualified for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank. The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV.
The successful candidate will practice in the areas of Pediatric Ophthalmology and adult strabismus. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
Their duties and responsibilities include:
Examining children’s eyes to diagnose diseases and conditions, such as strabismus, amblyopia, and ocular disorders related to diseases like diabetes and juvenile rheumatic diseases
Prescribing and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses
Providing treatment for eye injuries and infections
Conducting scientific research into the causes and cures for eye diseases and vision disorders
Performing surgeries like cataract removal, glaucoma treatment or strabismus correction
Collaborating with other healthcare professionals and making referrals when necessary
Communicating with parents about their child’s vision, advising on issues such as screen time and the importance of regular eye checks
Maintaining up-to-date and accurate medical records for all patients
Staying informed about the latest advancements in pediatric ophthalmology
Providing vision therapy and rehabilitation to patients with visual disorders
Other duties as assigned
At the WVU Eye Institute and WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital you will join our two full-time and two part-time pediatric ophthalmologists, our pediatric optometrist, and our orthoptist in treating a diverse population of pediatric and adult strabismus patients and have exposure to clinically challenging cases. Our state-of-the art facility houses all subspecialties of ophthalmology as well as an active research program. This University-based practice is rapidly expanding with a vast patient population offering the opportunity to be busy quickly.
The Eye Institute is the largest comprehensive ophthalmology department in the state.The nationally recognized Vision Research Center has made profound contributions toward advancing vision science and has collaborative partnerships with other WVU Departments and research institutions to build vision related research.The research program currently is in receipt of seven R01 grants, oneCOBRE grant, and 16 industry sponsored studies.
The WVU Health System Board of Directors approved funding to construct a new 150,000 square foot facility that will allow the WVU Eye Institute to better meet the needs of patients which will include 102 exam rooms, 44 testing rooms, and surgical suites.

Requirements
Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical license.
A successful candidate must have completed an ophthalmology residency program, as well as pediatric ophthalmology fellowship program.
Successful candidates must be board certified / eligible in Pediatric Ophthalmology.
All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
