The University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice is seeking a full time, motivated professional for the position of Clinical Faculty (Open Rank)/Clinical Pharmacist who will be assigned to the Rheumatology Clinic.

 The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients in the area of Rheumatology at the University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics. The Division of Rheumatology at UI Health provides care to patients with the full spectrum of rheumatic and autoimmune diseases, including arthritis and allied conditions and disorders of connective tissue. The Arthritis Center at UI Health is a significant outpatient facility with more than 6,000 patient visits annually.  The hospital is a 450-bed academic institution located approximately 2 miles west of downtown Chicago. with 21 on-site outpatient clinics and 11 FQHCs. The hospital and clinics serve an urban patient population.

 The clinical pharmacist is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. The interdisciplinary team consists of a dedicated pharmacist, rheumatologists, and nurses. The new hire will be assigned to the Rheumatology clinic 4 days per week with 1 office day per week. Hours will be Monday – Friday during the day. The pharmacist works under a medical staff approved clinical care protocol to promote safe and effective medication use in patients with rheumatologic conditions by facilitating appropriate patient assessment (including lab monitoring) and follow-up, as well as optimization and coordination of medication therapy.  The clinical pharmacist duties include completion of outpatient medication reconciliation, review of medication orders, provide assistance with medication acquisition, order appropriate labs/tests, provide dose titration for common rheumatologic medications and biologic medications, provide therapeutic drug monitoring, and provide education and counseling to each patient. The candidate will also be responsible for nurse, physician, and pharmacy staff development; coordinating and conducting quality initiative projects and developing collaborative treatment and research protocols.

 The academic responsibilities of the clinical faculty member (Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) include the provision of didactic lectures and precepting entry level Doctor of Pharmacy students, PGY1 residents and PGY2 residents. Scholarly activities, including presentations and publications, are an expectation as well.



PharmD and PGY1 residency experience required.

Candidates must present evidence of, or eligibility for, Illinois licensure as a professional pharmacist at time of employment.

PGY2 Ambulatory Care residency or 2-3 years of equivalent clinical experience is preferred

Board certification is recommended

Highly preferred strong clinical knowledge base; analytical and problem solving skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to consistently meet deadlines; demonstrate flexibility and ability to work independently and adapt to a changing work environment; excellent planning, time management and organizational skills. 

Academic rank commensurate with experience.
