About the Medical CenterOur medical center is a teaching facility that offers a comprehensive range of services, equipped with cutting-edge technology, education, and research opportunities. Situated on a 119-acre campus, we have 350 acute care beds and provide healthcare services across 12 locations in southeast Texas.

Compensation and Benefits- Salary: Competitive pay, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
- Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid leave annually, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and potentially 5 days of paid absence for continuing medical education (CME).
- Retirement: Traditional federal pension with a 5-year vesting period and a federal 401K plan with contributions up to 5% from the organization.
- Insurance: Comprehensive federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance options (many can be carried into retirement).
- Licensure: Must hold one full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.
- CME: Up to $1,000 reimbursement per year (must be full-time and board-certified).

- Contract: No physician employment contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.
- Deliver high-quality diagnosis and treatment for autoimmune rheumatic disorders.
- Effectively manage rheumatic conditions using evidence-based advanced treatment methods.
- Prescribe appropriate medications and recommend health regimens and lifestyle modifications for Veterans.
- Conduct inpatient and outpatient rheumatology consultations.
- Perform electronic chart reviews and manage outpatient clinics.
- Engage in telehealth clinics and educate trainees.
- Participate in optional research activities.
- Treat a variety of autoimmune rheumatic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthropathies, vasculitides, systemic lupus, crystalline arthropathies, polymyalgia rheumatica, Sjögren's syndrome, and inflammatory muscle diseases.
- Willingness to address other musculoskeletal issues such as fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, and osteoarthritis.
- Analyze signs and symptoms of rheumatic diseases and assess their impact on patients.
- Develop personalized treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests effectively.
- Utilize technologies such as radiographs, MRIs, and ultrasounds.
- Maintain accurate historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events.
- Stay updated on advancements in rheumatology and best practices through seminars and conferences.
- Review and sign off on notes from Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, as well as lab results and imaging studies during non-patient care periods.
- Adhere to universal precautions, HIPAA, and OSHA regulations.
- Complete all medical documentation within established guidelines and deadlines.
- Engage in medical duties related to quality of care, peer review, and departmental meetings.
